Facing Defeat, Obama Resorts to Name Calling *UPDATE*

Obama called Sarah Palin “a pig” today.  I guess we know, now, how he responds to pressure.

Reasonable people’s opinions of the messiah were already on the down slope, but his resorting to name-calling should pretty much assure his defeat.

He took the time to disguise the insult:  “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig,” the Democrat said, referring to Palin’s famous ad lib that the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull is the lipstick. (Michelle cracks back.)

Obama’s sophomoric behavior should give undecided voters caution.  There’s no doubt that he would not have resorted to low-brow tactics were it not for the polls.  McCain’s surge of 20 points in a week threaten to put the election out of reach.  Even California and New York are now in play for McCain and Palin: a scenario considered ridiculous when the Dems were praying that the God they don’t believe in would annihilate New Orleans through Hurricane Gustav.

Obama’s incivility followed Low Blow Joe Biden’s insinuation that Sarah Palin’s Down Syndrome baby is moral retribution for Republican opposition to Democrat dreams of harvesting stem cells from murdered babies–a practice Biden supports even if it involves murder.

Obama and Biden are beneath contempt.   Perhaps they should appear on the Jerry Springer Show.

**UPDATE**  It’s amazing how up-in-arms the moonbats get when their boys are caught acting like morons in public over something trivial, but how silent they become when Obama’s quasi-legal influence peddling with Fannie Mae executives.

**UPDATE** I missed the interview with O’Reilly tonight, but watched on Gateway Pundit.  What a pathetic, lying, idiot Obama is.  Are you liberals as stupid as he is, or do you like terrorists, racists, and socialists? The Pundit’s points:

He could not defend or explain his associations with terrorists, racists, and Leftist nutjobs.
He couldn’t defend his decision to appease the Daily Kooks.
He compared Sean Hannity and FOX News to the vile nutroots radicals.
He excused Bill Ayers’ terrorist attacks.
He could not name one example where FOX News smeared him.
He could not name one conservative friend.
Obama was so bad that O’Reilly started laughing.

Meanwhile, Glenn Reynolds points out that the “lipstick” meme from Democrats is too frequent to be coincidence.  Duh.  It’s called a “talking point.”    Sorry, moonbats:  your defense of your candidate falls short of convincing.

  1. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/09/palin_camp_takes_umbrage_at_li.html

Later, it turned out that McCain himself used the phrase more than once, including last year, when he was talking about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 1990s health care plan.

He said last October, “I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.”

Speaking about opponents of President Bush’s Iraq strategy last year, McCain criticized their reasoning.

“It gets down to whether you support what is being done in this new strategy or you don’t,” McCain said. “You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig, in my view.”

And the phrase is a common one, so much so that Torie Clarke, the former Pentagon communications director in the Bush administration — a Republican and a woman — named her book “Lipstick on a Pig: Winning in a No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game.”

Find something else to cry about.

  2. First of all, it’s not DEFEAT until the votes have been counted and McCain has been declared the president. Second of all, it’s a popular phrase, used several times by McCain himself, once directed at Clinton. I suppose I can be as petty as you and say he called her a pig.

You know, it’s meaningless garbage like this that attempts to distract voters from the things that are REALLY important. Don’t know what that is? I’ll give you a hint: It ain’t bacon.

  3. CALLING HILLARY A B_TCH was idiot McSAME’s battle cry!

Joe Biden, along with many Americans, want to know where Sarah Palin gets off acting like a champion of those challenged with disabilities when SHE AND HER STATE ARE BEING SUED FOR NOT DOING ENOUGH TO HELP THESE KIDS.

IT’S A COMPLETELY VALID QUESTION! IT SHOULDN’T GO AWAY BECAUSE THE CANDIDATES ARE OFFENDED BY IT! IF I HAD A NICKEL FOR EVERY TIME McSAME WAS OFFENDED- I’D BE RICH BY NOW AND McSAME WOULD STILL BE TRYING TO SWEEP REAL AMERICAN ISSUES UNDER THE RUG WITH McFAILIN’S BROOM!

I have a child with a disability, too, and I can tell you it’s a mine field for our kids. It’s a hard slog and Sarah doesn’t know the half of it — YET!

    ______GO JOE!
______Don’t let them sweep this under the rug like everything else!

These right wing fake-Christians are the same people that don’t mind telling a raped child there is no end to their nightmare!

  4. Hey Bill,

Did you see that your requested reference was provided by Hypocrits?

No. I’m sure you just haven’t checked yet (as opposed to trying to figure out how to cleverly eat your words).

  5. This blog post if garbage. He’s calling the Republican campaign–the Republican party–a pig. Which it is. It’s the party of power over the last decade and its done quite a bit of damage. It’s time to seek a new direction for America. Vote Libertarian, vote Green, vote Obama. Vote anyone but the same people who brought you this mess.

  6. McCain is such a pathetic whiner. He opposes a policy that would save lives. By the way, if there is a desperate campaign that has resorted to nasty and misleading ads, it’s McCain. He has flat out lied.

  7. Andrew, Hypocrits, Desire,

First, each time McCain used the phrase “lipstick on a pig,” the antecedent is an inanimate thing: socialized medicine, strategy. As Andrew admits, the antecedent in Obama’s usage was a person or persons.

Second, the term “lipstick” is top-of-mind associated with Sarah Palin, as I pointed out, because of her convention speech.

Game, set, match to Hennessy 🙂

  8. BTW, why are all you moonbats screeching about this little thing? Why aren’t you–‘specially ‘drew–asking your buddy Obama why his current and previous economics advisor cost US taxpayers $200 billions by funneling money to him and other Democrat Congressmen from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?

I mean, you’re such good citizens looking out for us all–go after Raines, Johnson, Obama, and Frank.

  9. Bill,

Clearly you have a difficult time reading.

If you look at the context of Obama’s comments, he is also referring to an “inanimate thing”.

“John McCain says he’s about change, too,” Obama said, leading into a string of ways he contends McCain represents more of the same — economic policy, taxes, education, foreign policy, campaign tactics. “That’s not change. That’s just calling something that’s the same thing something different. You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It’s still going to stink, after eight years. We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”

I guess in your mind, Obama not only called Palin a “pig”, but also an “old fish”.

People like you are brainwashers…however, you are an amateur.

  10. “Comment by Bill Hennessy on September 9, 2008 @ 9:27 pm

BTW, why are all you moonbats screeching about this little thing?”

Who was it that STARTED this blog entry?

Hmmm….I think it was YOU. Douchebag!

  11. After further review, my last volley landed outside the line. Game and set to me . . . match goes on. (Good job, Jeff.)

I’ll end with this: It is clear that Obama’s comments were ironic substitutions: old fish = McCain; pig in lipstick = Palin. I’m not the only one who caught the irony. The audience did, too. Earlier in Columbia, MO, Joe Biden used “lipstick” derisively against Palin.

These are the games weak pols play when they have nothing else to use in their promotion or in opposition to their adversaries. It happens all the time in House races and state government elections–it’s a bit unbecoming of a messiah who claims powers to shrink oceans and cure diseases.

  12. “Comment by Bill Hennessy on September 9, 2008 @ 9:56 pm

It is clear that Obama’s comments were ironic substitutions: old fish = McCain; pig in lipstick = Palin.”

Again, you are wrong. It is clear that he was referring to the Republican administration. “It’s still going to stink, after eight years. We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”

I’m not really sure where your mind is, but I won’t hold it against you since you are probably a brainwashed dittohead.

As for your claim: “Earlier in Columbia, MO, Joe Biden used “lipstick” derisively against Palin”, I’d like to read the link.

    Thank you.

  13. Oh…if by Biden’s comments in Columbia, MO, you are referring to when he said:

“I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy … and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well, guess what, folks? If you care about it, why don’t you support stem cell research?”

What is the problem with that? How is that demeaning or insulting? Disregarding whether or not one believes in stem cell research, the comment is not inappropriate in the least!

Is it the fact that he mentioned (rather implied) Palin’s special needs son? As I see it, that is fair game.

I seem to recall Palin making quite a big deal about her son and her situation when she gave her little speech at the Brainwash National Convention.

If she talks about it on national TV…it’s fair game.

(Had Biden brought up parents with pregnant teens, then that’s a different story.)

  14. McCain, who is the ugliest man I know, I can’t stand to look at him for too long, said Chelsea was ugly. It needs to be put out there. The thought of a Caucasian man being beat by a black man is unthinkable to them. McCain would probably kill himself with one of Palin’s guns. This is why they are trying every trick in the book. But I still want Obama’s investigators to find the lady in Alaska who said she heard Palin call Obama Sambo. What would she say to clean that up?

  15. McCain used the phrase to describe Hillary’s healthcare plan — not Hillary.

Obama used the phrase to describe…well, he didn’t really say. But I agree with Bill here — it would be a helluva coincidence for him to be talking about lipstick, in reference to the McCain/Palin ticket, a week after Sarah Palin used it in a widely seen speech.

And it would be even more of a coincidence if other people, representing the Obama campaign were — on the very same day — talking about lipstick and Sarah Palin in the same breath.

And it would be even more of a coincidence if Obama referenced “old fish” when his opponent is 72-years-old.

Who in the world do you guys think you’re kidding? Nobody’s going to actually buy that this was a coincidental poor choice of words…except, I guess, those who feel they have to convince themselves of that.

I think the only question is what the impact of the comment will be.

  16. “…it would be a helluva coincidence for him to be talking about lipstick…”

Apparently, the term “You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig” is a commonly used term (although I’d never heard it).

    For example:

Obama about Iraq policy: “George Bush has given a mission to General Petraeus, and he has done his best to try to figure out how to put lipstick on a pig.”

McCain talking about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 1990s health care plan: “I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.”

McCain about opponents of President Bush’s Iraq strategy: “It gets down to whether you support what is being done in this new strategy or you don’t. You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig, in my view.”

Torie Clarke, the former Pentagon communications director in the Bush administration — a Republican and a woman — named her book “Lipstick on a Pig: Winning in a No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game.”

So, the McCain campaign is trying to take this comment and twist it like Tom Brady’s knee. It will hurt them in the end and they won’t win.

  17. Jeff, it is a commonly used phrase. Nobody’s denying that. I’ve heard it a thousand times.

It doesn’t change any of my points. You might be able to sell me one of those coincidences. But when you add all three of them up, I’m not buying.

    – The comment comes a week after she used “lipstick” as a punchline.

    – He also referenced “old fish” (which is not a common expression) while running against a 72-year-old candidate..

    – And Rep. Russ Carnahan, at an Obama/Biden event, introduced Joe Biden by making a crack about Palin and lipstick.

Too many coincidences for me to believe it was an accident. He’s rattled and it’s showing, IMO.

  18. I have to say, people see what they want to see, Jeff. You lay out quotes for them, but they choose to ignore them (or at least interpret them as outlandishly as they want). See, in their minds, Palin is perfect because she takes issues off the table. Suddenly, Obama and Biden can’t talk about key social issues to the American people (ie: special needs children, teenage pregnancy, equal pay) or even use certain, inane political colloquialisms such as the “lipstick” comment without feigned and grandiose indignation from the right. As of now (and for the next 50 some-odd days) everything they say will somehow be about Palin.

I gotta be honest, it was a pretty brilliant strategic move, and I actually think it’s going to win them this election. But hey, look at it this way, people always eventually wise up when policies don’t have their best interests in mind – sometimes it just takes longer than 8 miserable years.

  19. Well, Parker, I’m not the one ignoring the list of assumptions we’d have to make to buy that this was some sort of coincidental poor (or, at least, poorly timed) choice of words.

So, yeah: people see what they want to see, indeed. People also don’t see what they don’t want to see.

But you shouldn’t read my reaction as outrage, feigned or otherwise. I think Obama stepped in it here and I’m not a good enough actor to pretend that I’m outraged by it. Quite the contrary.

I just know that, with men and women, there are certain verbal lines that shall not be crossed — and I know this from years of experience crossing them.

He crossed one. Fortunately for me, when I do it I usually just have to sleep on the couch for a night or two. He, on the other hand, has to hope that the female half of the electorate will give him a pass on calling a female opponent a pig (either that or buy into the idea that it was a coincidence).

  20. It’s hard to believe that some of you actually are actually going to determine who our next president will be. You guys are bickering over words that are being read into. Please, give it up! When are you guys going to start focusing on the issues? Who cares what they say about each other. Everyone who is on the Palin bandwagon, let’s make one thing clear: She is not ready for the vice presidency. The GOP knows she is not ready to handle going out alone to campaign, much less the media. Anyone who wants to argue, then why isn’t she doing interviews? It’s because she has no policies. She has to cram for the vp debates in order to survive them.
The fact is, the only reason McCain picked Palin is because it was a chess move. Once they knew that Clinton would not be on the ballot, the picked a woman that they didn’t even vet to try and get the Hillary supporters behind them. It is clearly not because of her experience. Anyone who wants to argue the point with me, I’ll be more than willing.

  21. Chris said: “You’re an idiot. It’s an expression.”

Well, yeah. But, as somebody on another blog pointed out, if the McCain camp responded by saying “that’s like the pot calling the kettle black”, do you think anybody would buy a defense that this was just a common expression?

Good grief, we’ve got Obama supporters telling us that everything from the term “elitist” to mocking “community organizers” is tantamount to playing the race card with code language.

Yet, we’re supposed to accept this at face value?

I know it’s an expression, Chris. Everybody knows it’s an expression.

But given that it’s not the only jocular use of the term “lipstick” by the Obama campaign, you’re just not going to convince me that this was some sort of accident.

If you want to defend it on other grounds, be my guest. But I wasn’t born yesterday.

  22. Obama’s lip stick / pig remark … and, Biden’s unsavory children with special needs remarks show us what a couple of creeps these two candidates are. In lieu of Sarah Palin’s comment about hockey moms, pit bulls and lip stick, Obama’s lip stick/ pig remark was extremely demeaning. Even though I am not an Obama supporter, at least I thought he had some degree of class and sophistication. He can try to cover his tracks by saying that the lip stick remark was not directed towards Governor Palin, but anyone with half a brain knows that’s exactly what he meant. I think Obama knows his campaign is in real trouble, and that’s why he’s stooping to such desperate, insulting and distasteful attacks. Obama is definitely not Presidential material, and he totally lacks character.

  23. Well, Brian, for one thing — she’s been in Alaska the last few days taking care of some personal business. For another, she’s sitting down for a 2-day interview with Charlie Gibson tomorrow.

So there goes that stupid point.

If you want to make qualification for high office an issue in this campaign, be my guest. It’s not a debate you’ll win…it’ll just put that much more focus on the fact that Obama’s been in the Senate for less than 4 years and running for president half that time.

And he’s not running for VP, he’s running to sit in the Oval Office.

  24. Scott,
So. As you see it Obama crossed a line. I disagree. He’s used the “lipstick” colloquialism before, but I DO agree that it was definitely poorly timed, as you put it. At the very least I wish he had been savvy enough to foresee people tying any remark with the word “lipstick” in it to Palin’s speech last week. So there. We agree on something. Kind of. 🙂

And now a question for you: Did you believe that Palin “stepped over a line” with her remarks regarding community organizers? Did her tone of voice indicate to you any sort of derision to the work that *they* do day in and day out to better *their* communities? Do you think more or less media coverage was given to disgruntled community organizers than to disgruntled women and republicans over the “lipstick” comment?

We both know how I feel about these two situations, but I’m curious to learn what your perspective on this is. I’m really just trying to understand how you reacted to this particular statment.

  25. Actually the McCain campaign called her the pig. Nothing in his speech referred to her. LOL! And why are’nt they going after Obama for calling McCain a stinky fish! LOL! Now that’s a debate I’d like to have.

  26. Parker,

It may have just been unfortunate timing. But, again, this requires too many assumptions…what with Biden and others cracking on Palin’s lipstick line, the “old fish” line with a 72-year-old opponent, etc.

So, I’m just not buying that this was an accident that looks bad — and neither did his audience, by the way.

As for Palin’s talk about community organizers and whether it crossed a line, that’s for others to determine…just as it is with the “lipstick on a pig” line. Don’t get me wrong — I’m not saying Obama crossed a line with me. I’m hardly outraged by this.

I’m saying that he’s probably going to find that he crossed a line with some female voters. It’s a line I’ve crossed myself with various misguided statements — so I speak from experience.

Whether Palin will receive a backlash from the coveted community organizer voting bloc, we’ll have to wait and find out. 😉

  27. Well, Scott, she’s been in Missouri. You really need to check your facts. As for the interview, I’m anxious to see how well she does. I believe it will be a lot like her Convention speech. Every speech she has made since then has almost been verbatim. None of which talk policies. I see her regurgitating a lot of what the Republican base has written for her. It will be interesting to see.

  28. Scott,
I’ve mulled your comment over and I have to ask you: What did you mean by this sentence: “Whether Palin will receive a backlash from the coveted community organizer voting bloc, we’ll have to wait and find out.”?
Were you being ironic when you used the word “coveted” or were you being smug? Or both? Or neither? Were you trying to be funny? If so, why?
Again, I say that people see what they want to see: some see an opportunity to gain ground with a large voting bloc by highlighting non-policy rhetoric by an opposing candidate, but fail to recognize their own VP candidate’s belittling rhetoric aimed at a smaller voting bloc. Is that bigotry or just good old fashion American competitive spirit? Who’s to say, but we all see what we want to.

  29. And, by the way, Scott, I fail to see how the crowd picked up on any sort of gaffe. They seemed to be cheering that Obama was claiming that McCain’s claims for change were unfounded. His manner and demeanor didn’t seem in the least directed towards Palin. He didn’t wink or smile or anything. I don’t get it. Where do you see the insinuation that he’s talking about Palin?

please, if I missed a wink or a smile somewhere, tell me. At the very least, hook me up with some of the kool aid. 🙂

  30. The “lipstick on a pig” comment is well known and refers to the idea that you can take something that is ugly and try make it look good, but it is still ungly. The idea that Obama was calling Palin a pig is moronic conservative moose poop!

  31. I don’t understand why you people on here think it a new low to “fight back” and challenge the rediculous notions that the Palin for president ticket (oops I mean McCain) puts out. It is clear to me that the reason McCain is now enjoying such popularity is because of her. Let’s be real here…She hasn’t done much but lie and spin since she came on the scene but those who support her love all the lies. She is a Maverick. COME ON. She was a desperate pick, aimed at non thinking individuals who want more of the same for fear that a black man might actually be their commander in chief. It is right that Obama challenge her, McCain, and the Republican party. THe truth always comes out. Oh and by the way, have you noticed that John McCain hasn’t said more than 2 words since the convention? And have you also noticed that she hasn’t had any interviews? What are Palin and McCain afraid of if asked “REAL’ questions? Talk about afraid!

  32. wake up, obama did not call palin a pig, mccain used the lipstick remark against clinton during primarys, how come no one jumped on it that way. By the way if she can’t take the heat get out. She talks about the boys, then everyone jumps to protect her. We need to have a vp who is ready, heck she can’t even talk or go anywhere by her self, for fear she will slip up. Great vp pick hugh. Whats mccain gonna keep her in his back pocket for four years. Well he won’t get my vote even though I voted rep. last election. This pick is to redical and political, at least if something happened to obama we have biden in office. Voting for mccain because he has a woman, would be the wrong reason and poor judgement

  33. McSame’s outburst really has made me change my vote. If he gets upset about nothing I wonder what would really happen if Putin called his VP a PIG. would he get so angry that he would INVADE Russia or send a missile their way? Now he concerns me. There are many colloquialisms in your American language. If somebody decided to use one what would he do? Besides I have never really liked the lady ever since she appeared. Her voice sounds like running fingernails down the chalkboard. Another thing I have yet to hear any policies get uttered by McSame. If he thinks all he has to do to get elected is to keep attacking his opponent He is wrong. I hope the American people are smarter than that.

  34. “Wahhh, he called Palin a pig”. No, he didn’t, and this whole Pig thing makes the right look like the bunch of whiners they are eager to call their opponents. Build that Bridge to nowhere and get over it.

  35. Why is McSame’s constant whinning getting so much press? I’d say this shows a lack of temperment to be president. It also sounds like he thinks the world revolves around him (and Palin). Everything that is said by Obama and Biden is a personal attack? Give me a break!

  36. Why is McCain’s whinning getting so much press? Maybe it is a good thing; looks like he doesn’t have the temperment to be president.

  37. Wow! Palin’s remark during her acceptance speech was about herself! Obama had no right to twist this around. That sealed it for my wife, who is a staunch Democrat – she is not voting for Obama and is switching her support to McCain-Palin. It is no wonder why women’s groups are starting to support Palin – not because of her political views, but because she is being attacked as a woman, wife and mother who also has a full-time job. Also, Biden’s comment that Republican’s do little for special needs kids – did anyone clue him in that Palin has a special needs child?

  38. Hey, blog-man,
you re an incredibly whiney fag, you fuckn priss…

    oh god how dare he!

McFagson, grow some fucking balls and try not to bikini wax said balls

  39. Simple issue, if this was a statement “lipstick on a pig,” that Obama had used constantly, it would not be such a controversy. But this was a statement that, coming out of the blue, showed very bad on Obama’s character. This was just one situation, watching the clip and the crowd reaction where there is no way he can defend himself.
Judging by crowd reaction, it looked very much like a covert jab at Palin.
The same goes for Biden’s comments on developmentally challenged children and stem cell research. They are more than able to talk on this subject, but when they start saying, “Parents of developmentally challenged children that don’t support stem cell research don’t care about their kids,” it is very unacceptable. And knowing that Palin has a developmentally challenged child, he just opened himself up for criticism.
Obama-Biden, need to start screening what they say before they say it. Whether you meant to look like a fool, or whether you just slipped up and made yourself look like a fool, bottom line is, you look like a fool, intentionally or not.

  40. If Obama sais the word ‘pig’ and every Republican automatically respond, “Oh, he’s talking about Palin. Then aren’t they the ones who called her a pig?”.

  41. You do realize that stem cell research is an American policy issue that is important and goes beyond the fact that Palin has a developmentally challenged child?

  42. Gene, hate to burst your bubble, but not only has Obama used the phrase before, but so have a lot of other politicians (including the God McCain)…As for your last point, anything ANYBODY sais about the paragon of virtue that is Sarah Palin (sarcasm intended), will be hammered home as the world picking on this poor helpless woman. As a woman who HAS been PTA president, a community organizer and now work with special needs children, I find this whole helpless woman routine disgusting!

  43. I will ive the GOP credit for one thing…they are the masters of spin, and are utterly despicable in their methods.

Does no one see the hypocrisy in this story??? Biden did not even mention Ms. Palin in his comments about stem-cell research… a very viable if not critical national issue. An issue that certainly deserves to be discussed and considered! All the moreso if Palin insists that she will be an advocate for their cause and concerns as she did at her acceptance speech.

Yet the McCain camp can accuse Biden of “Low-blows” and “desperation” in these comments, only days after falsely accusing Senator Obama of teaching sex-education to kindergardeners as his only accomplishment!!!!

Discussing the priorities of special needs children and our scientific options without direct reference to a now prominent politician in no way compares to false accusations about laws that were never enacted or supported by an individual specifically named in an issue that is needless to say, a very sensitive topic.

Obviously, I wont say the McCain camp is smacking of desperation, but they seem to have a no-holds-barred opinion of slander, manipulation, back-stabbing, and outright lying.

People please wake up!!! McCain/Palin and their spin campaign only wish to commit you to four more yeas of GOP FAILURE! Look at our national debt… where our money is… the state of our education system…. our economy…. Halliburton… Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae/Enron……FEMA….. FISA courts…. etc. etc. etc.

We know thy stole the election in 2000. Too many of you were still oblivious in 2004 and now most of you admit how poor a president George Bush has been.

Please people… consider how wrong your republican loyalties have been before blindly supporting this corrupt, dishonest, and self-serving party!!!

  44. So would Palin and McCain feel better if he said “Moose” in lipstick? McCain inserted this little known cupcake into a world where she has to face the same scrutiny as everyone else. GET OVER IT! What Obama said is true, you can cover up an issue with whatever you like, but it will still be the same stinky issue. I agree with Palin however that she is a pitbull in liptstick. Who else would subject her oregnant teenage daughter and the “daddy” of her unborn baby to such piblic mess.

  45. Who else would subject her pregnant teenage daughter and the “daddy” of her unborn baby to such public mess.

  46. A new McCain strategy! Anything said by the Obama camp will be distorted into an attack on the Palin. The lipstick comment refers to dressing up a pork barrel project and the term was first used by McCain himself. The stem cell comments by Biden addresses those with physical disabilities-not genetic defects such as Downs syndrome but hey, Americans for the most part are poorly informed and don’t know the difference which lets McCain twist what is said to make it an insult of his Palin.

I would like to see the media dissect this new strategy for what it is—taking advantage of Americans who lack the information to make informed decisions for themselves—Americans who can be easily manipulated with distortions of the facts.

  47. You’re an embarrassment for perpetuating this garbage. They were dealing with a campaign that was plummeting southbound fast, so all the Republicans had is this attack strategy. Sadly it’s working among the gullible, because there’s calling any legitimate questioning of Palin “sexist”, and any attack of GOP policy “unAmerican.” What a bunch of bull. I am disgusted by your blog and disgusted by the people who actually believe this nonsense. Any furthermore, where are you getting this “20 point surge” for McCain? What is your source? That, too, is garbage, just as your blog post is. Check the facts. Democrats have outregistered Republicans 10 to 1 for this election, at least. Polls are not capturing these new voters. Get a life, Hennessy.

  48. Save your breath Keith. Most of the sheep have already made up their minds. Besides the image of a black man in the WHITE House just drives them crazy. This year your country is going to have a woman VP who is not yet ready for that position and for the first time a candidate will not have to face reporters since the sheep think she is being attacked. All of your candidates have to face reporters all of the time but she is to be treated special. If the Republicans don’t think she can face reporters what will happen when she faces a crisis in the Oval Office if the President dies. This isn’t a popularity contest this is an important position.

  49. You can put lipstick on a right-wing, close-minded, radical nutjob, and it is still a right-wing, close-minded, radical nutjob.

  50. He said you could “put lipstick on a pig and it would still be a pig.” Isn’t it funny how Palin supporters automatically assume it’s Palin. Hmm, who’s infantile? He said it, and he should repeat it three times a day, everyday until election! Kooky conservatives are so afraid of “entitlement” programs but support the biggest global entitlement program in American history, the Iraq war. Screw the lower classes, let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps! But Iraq? Oh, well, they can have our military, our money, our resources, a huge surplus and do they have to do a darn thing for it? No. Thanks Bush and super loyal conservative pinheads, have it your way, America bought and sold by China and Iraq, now that’s country first!

  51. I’m so tired of the whining from both parties. When will the Republicans and Democrats actually start talking about what is important? Dogs, pigs, lipstick…the average American doesn’t have the time to care. I’ve been in the Armed Forces for 16 years and honestly, I’m extremely disappointed with the behavior of both my current and future political leaders. QUITE THE BICKERING AND FIX THE THINGS THAT ARE BROKEN WITH THIS COUNTRY!

  52. reply to Scott:

. . .did you say hard hitting, award winning journalist Charlie Gibson is gonna interview her ?!?!?

we all feel much better now, ‘ cause I KNOW we’re gonna hear him ask her –

    * about her LYING daily about the Bridge to Nowhere

    * Troopergate

    * Charging Wasilla rape victims for their own forensic tests

    * and charging the State of Alaska for being at home and flying her kids around the state

    riiiight – more like ?

what do you thing about Obama not wearing a flag pin ?

why are you so gosh darn popular ?

how do you stay in such great shape ?

how did you become such an awesome reformer ?

don’t ya think it’s kewl I get $10 mil a year for staged, campaign friendly interviews ?!?!?

  53. Sorry, we cannot discuss the issues here until ‘chicken’s with lips’ are addressed by Obama and I’m sure McCain will distorted that too into a sexist comment of the Palin.

  54. Bill if you have never heard the expression before you must live with your head up your @>@. Come on, grow up and stop making crap up. Do you really think that most Americans believe that he was calling her (Palin) a pig? This is you pushing your agenda by trying to make him look extremely bad. Sorry but most American people are not that stupid. Maybe you should talk to the actual Pigs in America as they are probably as smart as you.

  55. “She didn’t mention a word about health care, a word about the environment, a word about the middle class. They never parted her lips…”

Biden makes a disgusting comment about Palin’s genitalia.

  56. It’s about time the holier than thou Republicans faced some of their own tactics. Talk about desperation, when Mc Cain launched into his “Change” strategy, stolen directly from the Obama campaign, that showed true desperation and continuing lack of any independent thinking. I think it’s great that the Obama team took the gloves off for a bit rather than follow the traditional Democratic strategy of taking the high road, letting the Republicans do all the smearing and mud slinging..and winning!

  57. Your insinuation that Obama called Palin a pig is itself putting lipstick on a pig. And then you say it is a talking point, yet you are calling everyone here a moonbat. Could it be that there are just a lot of people who know a colloquialism that you are not familiar with? You my friend are the nutjob. Many people on here are just telling you the truth of the matter, but you would continue to put lipstick on a pig and then just call people names. Sure, Obama has his negatives and many of us know them. His stance on the economy, wishy-washines of stance on individuals who have been in his life, etc. but you have absolutely no level-headedness to your argument at all. You call people out for being left wing, but you are obviously right wing. Personally I am an extreme moderate. Fox news is a non-subjective news channel? Yeah, right. What is going on in a lot of people’s heads right now is “We are unsure of Obama, but we don’t like McCain.” Put another way, I would rather vote for the guy I am unsure of but like his positions rather than the guy I am sure of and don’t agree with his positions.

  58. I find it ironic that the new McCain ad would attack Obama’s support of a bill that protects adolescents and teaches them how to recognize sexual abuse and pedophiles. Since I’m not a politician, maybe that bill should be introduced in Alaska…if it were; maybe the Gov’s daughter wouldn’t be pregnant

  59. It’s laughable that the McCain camp is so sensitive. These are real concerns facing real Americans and the Democrats are better for putting them on the playing field and making a play. The Republicans cry fowl and cause a distraction because their position is not beneficial to those in need. Obama used McCain’s very own words and it’s a testament that McCain can’t play his own game and is possibly too old to remember he uttered those very same words more than once in the past.

  60. For heavens sake, Obama did not call Palin a Pig.
That is a phrase that was even used by her and Obama has used it many times before before Palin ever came on the scene.
    Get a Grip people

  61. On the trail in Virginia just now, Obama answered the McCain “lipstick” attack, refusing to engage the central phony charge and using it to cast McCain as unwilling to discuss serious issues.

Obama also directly attacked the news media for turning the “controversy” into a major story. It’s worth quoting his response at length:

“Some of you may have — I’m assuming you guys have heard this, watching the news. I’m talking about John McCain’s economic politics, I say, “This is more of the same, you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.”
And suddenly they say, “Oh, you must be talking about the governor of Alaska.”

    [Laughter from audience]

See it would be funny, it would be funny except — of course the news media all decided that that was the lead story yesterday. They’d much rather have the story — this is the McCain campaign — would much rather have the story about phony and foolish diversions than about the future.

This happens every election cycle. Every four years. This is what we do. We’ve got an energy crisis. We have an education system that is not working for too many of our children and making us less competitive. We have an economy that is creating hardship for families all across America. We’ve got two wars going on, veterans coming home not being cared for — and this is what they want to talk about! this is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about.

You know who ends up losing at the end of the day? It’s not the Democratic candidate, It’s not the republican candidate. It’s you, the American people. because then we go another year or another four years or another eight years without addressing the issues that matter to you. Enough.

I don’t care what they say about me, but I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and swift-boat politics. Enough is enough.”

  62. “It’s laughable that the McCain camp is so sensitive. These are real concerns facing real Americans and the Democrats are better for putting them on the playing field and making a play. ”

Excellent point. I think that Palin was chosen because it gives them an opportunity to cry foul anytime anyone says anything about her.

On the otherhand, had McCain chosen Bobby Jindal, maybe Obama wouldn’t have said, “you can add more garam masala to bad curry, and it is still bad curry”.

  63. I personally don’t care what anyone has to say from the McCain camp or its supporters say anymore, because most of what is said is just crap and lies and stretches of the truth.

Debating with his supporters on line, that supports his lies is about the biggest waste of time, and a waste of server space!

Palin referd to herself as dog at the RNC.

I am sorry, but, Palin jumped into the potitical ring and put her boxing gloves and started punching with the big boys. She needs to learn how to take the punches.

McCains TV observer whimps need to understand the concept and not watch for every word said and try to spin it!

They ought to be trying to figure how Palin pays herself per diem for stayting in her own house, pays for all her family to travel on the state funds etc. They think that seeing she saved so much money, it ok for her to abuse the state travel guidelines. She probably didn’t pay income tax on the income either!

  64. Go commenters go!!!!!!!!!
It won’t be long until the hypocritical lying and whining from the McCain camp wears thin on everyone.
When are the M/P supporters going to get that they have nothing new to run on?

  65. “Facing Defeat”
What election are you watching? Seriously, are you even paying attention? At best, McCain is in a dead-eve tie with Obama as of today – and that’s the first time in his entire campaign that he hasn’t been behind Obama.

    “called Palin a pig today”
Since you’re blogging, I assume you are also capable of reading and possibly even fact-checking your own statements before making a fool out of yourself. Please do so. Obama most certainly did NOT call Palin a pig. The “lipstick on a pig” analogy used by the entire country has nothing to do with referring to a person as a pig, and I’m sure you’re perfectly aware of this but, like the GOP and it’s minions, willing to disregard that so that you can jump on the smear bandwagon. The republicans are jumping on anything they can scratch up to complain and cry about to try to bash Obama’s character and integrity.
What do these underhanded, slimy tactics show us all? They show us how truly scared the GOP is of losing… that they can smell their own demise and it’s only about 50 days away. Desperate people to desperate things.

  66. If Obama visited Alaska and said “It’s cold as a witches’ tit up here”, would the conservatives assume that he was calling Palin a “witch”?

  67. McCain ally Mike Huckabee took Obama’s side on the issue, saying he didn’t think it was a swipe at Palin.

“It’s an old expression, and I’m going to have to cut Obama some slack on that one. I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin; he didn’t reference her.”

  68. “McCain ally Mike Huckabee took Obama’s side on the issue, saying he didn’t think it was a swipe at Palin.

“It’s an old expression, and I’m going to have to cut Obama some slack on that one. I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin; he didn’t reference her.””

Do you think that Huckabee was trying to make amends on his “someone pointed a gun at Obama” comment.

  69. I think that the honorable Mr. Huckabee is disgusted by what the media is showing on the evening news. The economy is in the toilet and all that McSame can talk about is a childhood phrase. Mr. Huckabee probably wishes that McSame would start talking about the issues. This race is McSame’s to lose.

  70. First of all, when McCain made a similar comment he was refering specifically to a policy proposal. I was willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt until I learned that a Biden was introduced at his rally with a lipstick comment-something about “a record you cannot cover up with lipstick”. This is typical Obama, make a comment and hide behind it, just like the primaries. Hillary could not show him for what he is because he would pull the race card. You know what else-the comments Biden made about special needs children are ridiculous. Obama camp response it is “about differences in policy not personalities”. So how is it a clash of policies if McCain, the Presidential candidate, is for stem cell research.
This is another attack on the VP candidate and why is Obama’s crowd making her the centerpoint-I thought Obama was running for President against McCain? The more he speaks the less presidential he sounds

  71. Wow! Some of you are such idiots. Obama made a simple comparison. The comparison was not to Palin, in regards to her being a pig, but to the policies of her and her running mate. The comparison merely stated that the policies can be dressed up as well as they can dress them, but in the end they all look and smell like the policies of the failed Bush administration. Obama is not an idiot. He knew exactly what kind of bait he was feeding to the Republicans and they bit all they could handle when they reacted the way they did. The same exact comparison was used by McCain when speaking of the healthcare plan Hillary was considering, when she was in the Race during the primary. Did the Democrats jump up and cry foul? No, because it is an old saying that has been used for years. Did Obama speak of Palin, yes. He stated that he respected her running for VP , while beaing a mother of 5. He stated that he had just two children and they were a hand full for him. Her having 5 children and being able to run with all going on was given credit on his part. Only a fool would see a headline and not read the complete quote. I guess all conservatives are alike. They choose portions of a quote and flip it around to work for them. This reaction just made McCain look loke the old fool that he is. Every chance he gets, he tries his very best to attack Obama. I guess he is just trying his best to avoid the talk about policy issues.

  72. Jeff,

A presidential candidate should never say it is as Cold as a witches tit up here where the public could hear. The more he speaks away from the teleprompter, the less presidential he sounds because the true man that wants to lead the strongest country in the world comes out. The polls show he is losing support because of it

  73. I’m sorry that she is a woman. But the fact of the matter is that this is a man’s world and therefore and man’s game. This is how the game is played. The Republicans lie and the Democrats catch them in those lies. After doing so, the only option left for Republicans is to cry foul. “He is attacking her because she is a woman”. McCain did not choose her because of policy and what she can do for the country. He chose her merely based on the fact that she was a woman. He wanted brownie points from women voters and also wanted to be able to use the sexist card. Plain and simple! Nothing more, nothing less.

  74. And the Republicans have fallen for her – hook, line and sinker. If the hockey mom was a man this would not even be an issue. The Republican party better grow some balls because they are going to need them.

  75. “Obama called Sarah Palin “a pig” today.”

…This couldn’t be further out of context. I mean it couldn’t, possibly, be further out of context. You’ve taken it so far out of context that it’s a study in interstellar distances, which is admirable in a way I guess.

If “Sarah Palin is a pig” is what you hear out of “you can’t put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig”, then that means you were the one who thought she was a pig subconsciously. Admit it.

Now, what amazes me is how this, well, I can’t call it a poor choice of words, because it’s just something some people decided to read too far into as if they were being payed a million an hour to read into things. At any rate, what amazes me is that this farce is getting more attention than the fact that Palin’s husband is a member of a radical party which wants to separate Alaska from the USA. If Michelle Obama wanted to separate California from the USA, we’d never hear the end of it!

  76. By the way, the change in polls is about 1 or 2 percent. The swing of 20 percent was in white female voters, which seems a bit suspect to me, but on such slim threads do hang the hopes of Republican candidates who picked Sarah Palin as VP.

  77. As long as McCain keeps Obama and supporters (me) off message he wins because he has nothing to offer. We have huge issues in this country and we need to stop the silly name calling and get with the program.

  78. I think it’s amazing how many people are struggling to make their house payments or rent payments (as well as other living expenses) and continue to spout out the virtues of the McCain/Palin ticket. Are you people totally brain dead?

As a totally pro-choice woman, I can guarantee you that the people who would have voted for Hillary are NOT going to vote for McCain/Palin. I don’t care how pretty she is or how good her speeches are. Having a “hockey Mom” in the White House just isn’t good enough and anyone with half a brain should be able to see that. McCain’s campaign was a tired, worn out yawn until he introduced Palin. It was a stunt to get some votes and nothing more. There are far more people qualified for the job of VP (and even a few women I might add) if only McCain had taken the advice I’m sure some of his advisors were giving him. Palin is a joke. Sure, she’s pretty and if everyone wants to go out and get eyeglasses just like hers, well…then have at it! BUT, those same people will soon realize that she is a far cry from what this country needs. McCain will not be the shot in the arm that the U.S. needs to get back on track economically. Or do some of you not remember McCain saying that the “economy is not my strong suit”? Most Democrats have not forgotten it and I certainly haven’t.

You people who are on the bandwagon of the McCain campaign need to get off the stupid train. Sarah Palin is not going to help our economy. You are blinded by the media frenzy and it won’t make one ounce of difference in your economic future if you don’t wise up and realize that we need Obama/Biden in the White House. Not an old guy who is out of touch with the common working-class person or a woman who was dumb enough to let herself get pregnant at 44! We can talk all day about how many special needs children there are in the schools today. Sarah Palin made some ignorant choices. Don’t make another one by voting for the Republican party in November.

  79. “Moslems commonly refer to women and Jews as pigs.”

Conservatives commonly refer to gays and lesbians as deviants and sinners.

    What is your point?

  80. most of the comments i have read were written prior to the election. I can only now laugh at all you idiots who voted for Obama. you were stupid then and have not gotten smarter since. He will continue to lie to you lemmings and you will follow. How is that hope and change? When you liberals grow up,yeah right, maybe you will realize that the dems are not out to help you. They are about keeping power and will lie through their teeth for that result. Obama is no more than a Chicago thug politician. Feel proud that you voted for the socialist. You who still support the fool, will live to regret it. And that, maybe my only solace to the ruination of this country.
